Our Coaches
Say Hello to our coaches...

Tee Ball & 6U - Bob Powers
Bob brings over 20 years of experience coaching youth sports, having coached his older kids, now 22 and 19 years old, and now his youngest, almost 5 years old. He believes in the importance of skill development, encouragement, and making every practice and game an enjoyable experience. Whether it’s a player’s first time picking up a bat or they’ve already taken a few swings, Coach Bob is dedicated to helping each child improve, build confidence, and have a fantastic season.

9U - Adam Rashid
Coach Adam has been involved in Bed-Stuy Sluggers for the past four years -- first when his son was in t-ball, and for the last two years as head coach of the 8U team. Coach Adam has fond memories of playing baseball as a child and seeks to develop a positive environment where all youth can learn the great game of baseball. Coach Adam also believes that, by participating in the Bed-Stuy Sluggers program, players will develop life skills that carry beyond the field: working hard to accomplish goals; respecting and valuing yourself and others; working together as a team; and serving your community to make positive changes.

7U/8U & 12U - Sidney Wormsby
Coach Sidney's baseball roots run deep. He started playing youth baseball at age 7 in Little League and was a Captain (and starting second baseman and shortstop) of four Little League All-Star teams. Three of those All-Star teams won state championships and one played for a regional championship. He had a short stint as a "Walk On" for Michigan State University before turning his attention strictly to his academics. Coach Sidney has been involved with youth baseball for almost 40 years as a coach for rec leagues and travel teams; as a trainer for individual players and small groups; and working with players of all ages from T-ball to college level. Although Coach Sidney is solid at instructing players in all aspects of baseball, he has particular expertise in the areas of hitting, infield play, and pitching.

Baraka Wilson
Baraka Wilson is a former baseball player and current coach who has been involved in baseball for 17 years. In his youth, he played for the prestigious South Jersey club programs, Brooklawn American Legion & Tri-State Arsenal, which produced athletes such as Mike Trout. He then became a 3 year starter and captain at The Peddie School in New Jersey’s Mid-Atlantic Prep League while also leading Peddie’s defense in football as a defensive back. Post-high school, Baraka went on to play baseball at George Washington University before injuries ceased his playing career. Since playing, he has coached 10U in his hometown in New Jersey specializing in outfield defense, base running, batting, and game strategy. Baraka now has a successful career in partnerships and business strategy in the financial and entertainment industries.

10U - Brendan Mapes
Brendan joined the Sluggers organization in 2024 as the head coach of the 10U team. With 10 years of coaching experience, Brendan has previously coached for the Brooklyn Bulldogs travel organization and Trevor Day School. In addition to his team coaching, he has extensive experience providing 1:1 lessons to players of all ages, with a focus on hitting and the catching position. Brendan played both varsity baseball and football at Oberlin College, where he earned all-conference and all-region honors as a catcher.
